This past week, while self-quarantining myself from COVID-19…
Dear Family,
Like most folks out there, Mimi and I finally got that chance and tore open the front hallway walls of the old place to install some much needed insulation.
First you’re going to need some backstory…
Backstory: Back when we were house shopping, and we first viewed our soon to be home.
We were told that the front door, obviously not the only door in the place, couldn’t be opened. The realtor didn’t know why. Just that “it can’t be opened”.
Not having an immediate use for this particular door, plus the knowledge that a door “not opening” couldn’t possibly exist, I put the whole thing out of my mind and we closed the deal.
So anyway, this past week, while self-quarantining myself from this COVID-19, down came the plaster and lathe; and in time, cleaned up the mess and put it all back together.
Now in the process of doing this I figured that since the door was right, and would come in very handy in hauling materials in and out, it was time to open it.
It took no more than a flashlight and some tugging to figure it out but long story short, I concluded that it would take a skeleton key.
Where’s a skeleton key when you need one, right?
Well, actually found three. But I didn’t find one that would fit.
Solution: I removed the faceplate that contained the keyhole, and after poking around and trying a few other things that I thought might work, I reached for the ol’ chrome plated off-set screwdriver.
Now anyone who knows, this off-set screwdriver is one of those tools that you collect early on in one of those beginner’s tool kits and for the following years, move from one tool box to another through you life without ever really finding a use for it.
Well folks let me tell you this. The darn thing makes a great skeleton key.
Moral? Reminds me of a guy who once said, “They told me it couldn’t be done, so I didn’t try.”
I say. “never believe ANYONE who says that it can’t be done.
Love to all.
